Jordanians Protest in Front of US Embassy

AMMAN – Hundreds of Jordanians took to the streets on Thursday to protest US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Demonstrations were held in front of the US Embassy in Amman, as well as in other Jordanian cities, with some calling for the removal of all American military personnel stationed in Jordan.

A number of protesters denounced the very presence of the US Embassy in the Hashemite kingdom.

Waving Palestinian and Jordanian flags, participants burned photos of Trump along with Israeli flags while chanting pro-Palestinian slogans.

Palestinians see East Jerusalem, which was seized by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War, as the capital of their future state.

Until now, no nation that maintains diplomatic relations with Israel has moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and the 1993 Oslo Accords between Israel and the Palestinians mandate that the city’s final status is to be settled by negotiations.
