MONTEVIDEO – Three young Uruguayan men are missing after the boat they sailed on for a fishing trip capsized in Laguna Negra, in Rocha province on the border with Brazil, officials said Sunday.
Sailors, police and volunteers are searching for the missing men.
A resident told officials that he saw the boat go down on Saturday.
The boat was found by rescue workers, but the men have not been located, officials said.
Laguna Negra is the largest body of water in Uruguay, covering about 17,000 hectares (41,975 acres).
The lagoon is shallow, but its dark waters are making the search difficult.
