MONTEVIDEO – Uruguayan and Spanish export and investment promotion agencies Uruguay XXI and ICEX signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation Wednesday aimed at improving knowledge about their respective markets and boosting exports.
The signing ceremony at Spanish banking giant BBVA’s offices opened a conference titled “Spain-Uruguay Business Meeting: Thinking About the Future,” which will be closed by Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on the second and last day of his official visit to Montevideo.
The agreement was signed by Spanish Trade Secretary Maria Luisa Poncela and Uruguay XXI executive director Antonio Carambula.
The agreement seeks to expand cooperation between the agencies, promote trade links between Spanish and Uruguayan firms, and boost the international expansion of micro-, small- and mid-sized companies in both countries, Uruguay XXI said in a statement.
The two-year agreement can be extended by mutual agreement.
