Police Find Nearly 500 Kilos of Pot inside Abandoned Van in Uruguay

MONTEVIDEO Ė Police seized nearly 500 kilos (1,100 pounds) of marijuana found in an abandoned van with Brazilian tags in Isidoro Noblia, a town in the northeastern Uruguayan province of Cerro Largo, the Interior Ministry said.

Police found the pot when they inspected the vehicle, which had been abandoned on a rural road in the town, located 445 kilometers (275 miles) northeast of Montevideo.

Once officers verified that the vehicle had been left recently, they inspected the vanís interior, discovering nearly half a ton of marijuana packed in bales.

Investigators are trying to locate the vanís owners, the ministry said.
