Five Die as Bus, Tanker Truck Collide in Bolivia

LA PAZ – Five people were killed and a score were injured when a bus and a tanker truck had a head-on crash on a central Bolivian highway, police said.

The bus of the Danubio 1 company was headed east from the central Bolivian city of Cochabamba to Oruro when the accident occurred near the small community of Confital, apparently caused by heavy rains and the highway’s poor state of repair, according to a preliminary police report.

The injured were admitted to hospitals in Cochabamba and Oruro.

Accidents on Bolivian highways leave an average of 1,000 dead and 40,000 injured every year, according to official figures.
