JERUSALEM Ė The Israeli Magen David Adom emergency service (MDA), equivalent to the Red Cross, is waiting for authorization from Peru to send a supply of blood to a young Israeli tourist admitted to a Peruvian hospital in critical condition.
Zohar Katz, 21, is lying sedated in the intensive care unit of a Lima hospital and needs dialysis for a bacterial blood infection which developed during a trip through Latin America.
The patientís father, Boki Katz, said that the woman began to feel bad in Brazil, but continued her journey and in Peru she had to be admitted to hospital in a critical condition, according to Israeli Channel 2.
According to MDA, Peruvian medical staff is carrying out intensive dialysis, but they need supplies of blood to replace all the infected blood they have removed.
The Israeli ministry of foreign affairs is collaborating with medical services in sending the necessary blood supplies, which will be transported under special conditions at the appropriate temperature.
