Peru Will Not Hire Odebrecht Again, Will Force It to Pay Debts

LIMA – The Peruvian state will not hire the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht again and will force it to pay its debts in Peru before it transfers its resources abroad, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski announced on Sunday in a message to the nation.

Kuczynski enumerated a series of measures against companies that have accepted their guilt of corruption or have been convicted of this same type of crime, since he said the Odebrecht case is “the biggest, but it is not the only one.”

He also announced that companies such as Odebrecht, whose personnel in charge admitted having paid $29 million in bribes to Peruvian officials between 2005-2014, must request permission from the government to sell their assets, and that money will go to a fund that guarantees the payment of the fine imposed on the company by the Justice.
