Peru Hosts 12th International Gold and Silver Symposium

LIMA The 12th International Gold and Silver Symposium got under way Tuesday in the Peruvian capital with some 1,000 participants.

Opening the two-day event, organizing committee chair Jose Miguel Morales said gold and silver mining is the sector that has done the most to foster economic growth in Peru.

Mining firms remain committed to working and investing in the Andean nation despite a global economic slowdown that has caused a fall in prices for metals, he said.

Morales said the mining sector is interested in hearing the proposals of the candidates facing each other in the June 5 presidential runoff, Keiko Fujimori and Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, for addressing bureaucratic obstacles and social conflicts that affect mining in Peru.
