Chinese Fugitive Hiding in Peru for 17 Years Surrenders to Police

SHANGHAI – Zhang Liping, who was on Interpol’s list of 100 most-wanted Chinese fugitives and who spent 17 years hiding abroad, mainly in Peru, surrendered to the police in Shanghai, state-run news agency Xinhua reported Monday.

Zhang is accused of falsifying documents, especially value-added tax invoices.

She is also on China’s list of 100 most wanted fugitives published on April 22, 2015 by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China, whose website said she could be hiding in Thailand or the United States.

It seems Zhang, who was the executive president of a shoe making company in Shanghai according to the Communist Party, left China in August 1999 and fled to Peru via Thailand.
