LIMA – Peru has acquired 27 Chinese-made 90B self-propelled rocket launchers for army artillery units, the Defense Ministry said.
Each truck carries an array of 40 122-mm rocket launchers with a range of between 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) and 40 kilometers (24.8 miles), the ministry said in a statement.
President Ollanta Humala participated in the ceremony at which the rocket launchers were delivered to the army at the military academy’s plaza of honor in Lima’s Chorrillos district.
Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi, armed forces joint command chief Gen. Jorge Ricardo and the commanders of the army, Ronald Hurtado; navy, Carlos Tejada; and air force, Dante Arevalo, also attended the ceremony.
Hurtado said the purchase of the weapons system was an important step for the army because it would benefit the new generations of artillerymen.
