Pinochet’s Widow Rushed to Chilean Military Hospital

SANTIAGO – Lucia Hiriart, widow of Chilean dictator Gen. Augusto Pinochet, was admitted to the Santiago Military Hospital suffering from severe chest pain, the Defense Ministry said Friday.

The 93-year-old widow was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room Thursday night after complaining of extreme discomfort in her chest, the ministry said.

“Mrs. Hiriart is out of mortal danger and will be kept hospitalized,” pending the completion of further tests and treatment, according to the medical bulletin.

Hiriart was hospitalized for several days in March for treatment of a chronic respiratory problem.

Pinochet died in December 2006 of a heart attack.
