12 Die in Traffic Accident in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES – At least 12 people were killed when a van and a tanker truck collided Sunday in the northwestern part of Argentina’s Buenos Aires province, the fire department said.

The accident occurred in Vedia, a city about 312 kilometers (194 miles) northwest of the Argentine capital.

Eight people were killed instantly and the other four died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Four people are hospitalized and listed in serious condition.

The tanker truck’s driver, who was traveling alone, survived, police said, adding that 15 people were in the van, which belonged to a local transportation company.

The accident’s cause has not been determined, but press reports said the truck driver may have been at fault.
