Holy Week Sales Fall 4.8% in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES – Sales of goods and services related to Holy Week tourism fell 4.8 percent this year in Argentina, compared to 2015, the Argentine Association of Mid-Sized Enterprises, or CAME, said in a report released Sunday.

The number of people traveling during Holy Week rose, compared to last year, but sales in the 40 cities tracked by the report dropped, the trade group said.

Some 2.27 million people traveled around Argentina during Easter weekend, a figure that was up 2.1 percent from 2015, “although stays were shorter and sales of goods and services linked to the sector fell 4.8 percent,” the CAME said.

“Daily spending reflects how, with reduced buying power, people continue traveling, but they are buying different items to make the weekend more affordable,” the business group said.
