Telecom to Invest More Than $1.9 Billion in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES – Argentine telephone company Telecom Argentina said it planned to invest 18 billion pesos (some $1.9 billion) to upgrade its entire mobile network in the South American nation.

Of that total outlay, 5.5 billion pesos (some $587 million) is to be spent this year, the Buenos Aires-based company said in a statement Friday.

The goal is to expand capacity and coverage, make its network infrastructure more efficient and optimize the quality of its 2G, 3G/HSPA+ and 4G/LTE services nationwide, the company added.

Telecom’s ultra-fast 4G network currently covers 22 cities in 16 Argentine provinces.
