Argentine Cabinet Chief to Run for Buenos Aires Governorship

BUENOS AIRES – Argentine cabinet chief Anibal Fernandez has announced he will contest the upcoming primaries on Aug. 9 to secure his candidacy for the governorship of Buenos Aires, Argentina’s largest province.

“I am going to be the governor of Buenos Aires province and from this moment onwards I will defend its interests,” Fernandez said before a packed auditorium at the NH Tango hotel in Argentina’s capital.

The official had earlier said he was considering contesting for governor of Buenos Aires, the province within which no less than 40 percent of country’s voters reside.

Fernandez also declared he will continue with his presidential aspirations, hoping to succeed Daniel Scioli as the best-positioned ruling party candidate for the next presidential elections.
