BUENOS AIRES – Ten people died when two helicopters collided in the northern Argentine province of La Rioja for as yet unknown reasons, authorities confirmed to Efe on Monday.
The accident occurred near the town of Villa Castelli, some 400 kilometers (250 miles) from the provincial capital.
“There was a crash (involving) two helicopters. There are 10 confirmed dead,” a La Rioja provincial government spokesman told Efe.
The accident occurred on Monday afternoon under normal weather conditions.
Meanwhile, La Rioja Security Secretary Cesar Angulo told the Todo Noticias television channel that one of the helicopters belonged to the La Rioja government and the other to the government of the neighboring province of Santiago del Estero.
According to the official, the aircraft were in Villa Castelli to do some documentary filming in the area of Quebrada del Yeso.
