SANTO DOMINGO – A gunman burst into the studios of 103.5 FM radio in the eastern city of San Pedro de Macoris on Tuesday and opened fire, killing the station manager and a broadcaster, the head of Dominican Journalists Guild (CDP) told EFE.
Luis Manuel Medina was delivering a newscast when the fatal shots were fired.
After shooting Medina, the assailant turned the gun on station director Luis Martinez and a secretary, Dayana Garcia, who was badly wounded, CDP president Olivo De Leon told EFE.
Photos posted on social media show Medina lying on the floor in a pool of blood, while Martinez is seen sitting in a chair with blood flowing out of a wound on his chest.
The moment when the first shots were fired was captured on video in a clip that has already appeared on Facebook.
The CDP’s De Leon demanded an “immediate investigation” leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.
