Dominican Newspaper Apologizes for Publishing Alec Baldwin’s Photo with Trump Story

SANTO DOMINGO – The Dominican Republic’s El Nacional newspaper apologized on Sunday for erroneously publishing a story last week about President Donald Trump accompanied by a photograph of actor Alec Baldwin, who is known for his imitations of the US leader.

The edition with the wrong photograph was published on Friday.

Baldwin’s photograph was received from a foreign news agency tagged with the actor’s name and mistakenly published as an image of Trump, an error that was not spotted by any of the people who reviewed the galley, El Nacional said.

The newspaper said it wanted to “apologize to readers and all those who felt affected” by the mistake, which was the subject of extensive comments on social media.

Baldwin does an imitation of Trump on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”

Trump has taken issue with the way Baldwin portrays him and the two men have exchanged verbal jabs on numerous occasions.

“Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me. Time to retire the boring and unfunny show. Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks,” Trump said in a Twitter post in October.
