Pope Donates $100,000 to Victims of Hurricane in Haiti

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis has decided to send $100,000 to help the people of Haiti after Hurricane Matthew, which has caused hundreds of deaths and injuries and extensive damage, the Vatican reported on Friday.

The donation will be made through the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, responsible for the activities of solidarity, the Vatican indicated in a statement.

The donation will be distributed to the dioceses “which suffered the greatest losses in the flooding.”

This sum of money, which will be sent to the local church, is “a first and immediate concrete expression of the sentiments of spiritual closeness and paternal encouragement of the Supreme Pontiff with regard to the afflicted persons and territories,” the statement added.
