Mexican Military Helicopter Crashes in Durango, Seven Presumed Dead

MEXICO CITY – A Mexican Air Force helicopter crashed in the northern state of Durango on Friday with eight people on board, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) said.

One person was found in critical condition at the site of the crash, while authorities were carrying out a search and identification of seven bodies which were presumed to be among the wreckage of the aircraft, Sedena said in a statement.

The Bell 412 helicopter crashed approximately 4 kilometers northeast of El Salto Pueblo Nuevo, Durango.

The statement added that the surviving military member, who had suffered “multiple traumas” and was in “critical, unstable condition,” had been evacuated to hospital.

The causes of the crash were being investigated.
