MOSCOW – President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia felt the pain of the Mexican people following two recent earthquakes, adding that his government was ready to send more assistance.
“In Russia, we sincerely feel the pain of the Mexican people,” Putin said as new Mexican Ambassador to Russia Norma Pensado Moreno presented her credentials at the Kremlin.
“We have already provided initial humanitarian aid and we are willing to continue providing assistance as needed,” Putin said, noting that bilateral relations with Mexico covered a broad range of issues.
Putin noted “the productive meeting we had with President Enrique Peña Nieto during the BRICS summit” in China last month.
“On that occasion, we discussed concrete steps to enhance political dialogue and expand cooperation in the trade and humanitarian sectors,” the Russian president said.
Ambassador Pensado Moreno presented her credentials during a joint ceremony with the new envoys from several countries, including Spain, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Portugal and the European Union.
Pensado Moreno, the first woman to head the Mexican Embassy in Russia, was previously ambassador to Finland and Sweden.
