MEXICO CITY – The army raided and dismantled four illegal laboratories used to produce synthetic drugs in two towns near Culiacan, the capital of the northwestern Mexican state of Sinaloa, the Defense Secretariat said.
“Four sites were located that operated as laboratories for the production of synthetic drugs, located in the towns of El Carrizalejo and Los Naranjos, near the city of Culiacan,” the secretariat said in a statement.
The raids, part of a larger operation targeting traffickers in 50 cities listed as priority areas in the war on drugs, resulted in the seizure of 180 cookers containing liquid substances and 360 other cookers, the secretariat said.
Soldiers also seized gas tanks and cylinders filled with an “unknown liquid substance,” as well as other containers of different types, the Defense Secretariat said.
“No civilians were found working at the sites” and all the items seized were turned over to the appropriate authorities, the secretariat said.
