Four Die in Car Crash in Mexico’s Capital

MEXICO CITY – Four people were killed and another person injured Friday when a car smashed into a light post on Mexico City’s emblematic Paseo de la Reforma, authorities said.

The vehicle, a white BMW carrying five people, split into two pieces on impact with the post, located on a traffic island, the municipal Public Safety Office said.

The horrifying crash took place around 3:30 am, according to the bulletin.

The injured person was taken to a Red Cross hospital in the capital’s upscale Polanco neighborhood.

Police cordoned off a stretch of the road for nearly four hours while removing the bodies and clearing the accident scene.

Built in the 19th century to link the city center with Chapultepec Castle, the downtown segment of Paseo de la Reforma is lined by skyscrapers housing financial institutions and corporate headquarters.
