Brazilís Michel Temer Arrives in Xiamen for BRICS Summit

XIAMEN, China Ė Brazilís President Michel Temer arrived in Xiamen in Southeast China on Sunday to participate in the 2017 BRICS summit.

Temerís plane landed shortly before 1:00 pm (0500 GMT) at the airport on the Chinese island of Xiamen, where he was received with flower bouquets and military honors before heading to the summit venue.

Temer is set to meet with the presidents of China, Xi Jinping; Russia, Vladimir Putin; and South Africa, Jacob Zuma; and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss new forms of cooperation within the bloc established a decade ago.

The summit will run until Tuesday.

Before landing in Xiamen, Temer had been on a two-day state visit to Beijing, where he met with the Chinese president and attended signing ceremonies for various bilateral agreements.

Temerís visit to Beijing and Xiamen aims to demonstrate Brazilís economic recovery after a two-year recession.
