Eight Dead, 25 injured in Bus Accident in Ecuador

QUITO At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured when a bus went off a highway between the cities of Esmeraldas and Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, in northwestern Ecuador, the National Police said Monday.

A 12-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl, an American woman and a Belgian woman were among those killed in the accident.

The two foreigners belonged to the Mormon church, police said.

The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. Sunday in Cupa district, and initial indications are that the crash was caused by speeding.

The vehicle, which was partially destroyed, went off the highway after taking a curve. EFE
