QUITO -- Ecuador's exports to the neighboring Andean Region totaled $562 million between January and April, down 51% from the $1.14 billion calculated in the same period of 2008, the central bank said.
Meanwhile, imports into Ecuador from the Andean Region totaled $845 million in the same period, down 36% from $1.33 billion the previous year.
The Andean Region is made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
Colombia was the greatest destination for exports, taking $212 million, or 38%, $201 million, or 36%, went to Peru; and $146 million, or 26%, went to Venezuela; with only $3 million to Bolivia.
Colombia was also the largest supplier of imports, with $463 million during the first four months of the year; $193 million came from Venezuela; $185 million from Peru; and $4 million from Bolivia.
