UK’s Prince William Visits Tomb of Great-Grandmother in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM – The United Kingdom’s Prince William visited the tomb of his great-grandmother on Thursday as part of a tour of several historic sites in Jerusalem and a wider tour of the region.

The Duke of Cambridge, a grandson of Queen Elizabeth II and second in line to the UK’s throne, visited the Mount of Olives, which has views over the Old City of Jerusalem, the Dome of the Rock, al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Western Wall, according to Kensington Palace.

“The Duke of Cambridge pays his respects at the tomb of his great-grandmother, Princess Alice, at the Church of St Mary Magdalene,” Kensington Palace tweeted alongside a photograph of William clutching flowers to be placed on the coffin of the mother of the queen’s husband, Prince Philip.

William’s visit was the first such royal visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories ever to take place, according to his family’s statement.
