Spain Gives Order of Isabella the Catholic to Kazakh President

ASTANA – The Speaker of the Spanish Parliament, Ana Pastor, presented on Monday the Order of Isabella the Catholic to the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on behalf of King Felipe VI.

Pastor handed over the award to Nazarbayev on behalf of the Spanish King, who had bestowed the award on June 23.

This year, the former Soviet republic Kazakhstan celebrates the 25th anniversary of its independence and establishment of diplomatic ties with the international community, including Spain, Pastor noted.

“I want to thank President Nursultan Nazarbayev for his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations based on trust and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Pastor said during activities marking Spain Day at EXPO Astana 2017.

She added that Spain, in recognition of these ties, decided to award the Order of Isabella the Catholic, which recognizes services that benefit Spain.

During the ceremony at the president’s official Akorda workplace, Nazarbayev thanked the Spanish King for the high honor, and stressed that friendly ties with Spain have been based on trust since the first days of the Central Asian nation’s independence.

The Kazakh president recalled his meeting with Felipe VI on June 10, during the latter’s first official visit to Kazakhstan, for the inauguration of the international exhibition in Astana.

Nazarbayev also stressed his intention to continue fruitful cooperation with Spain.
