COPENHAGEN – Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and his wife Princess Sofia will be parents for the first time in April next year, the Swedish royal family announced on Thursday.
“We are so happy and excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. We are very much looking forward to it,” the royal family stated in a statement.
Carl Philip, 36, third in line to the throne, and Sofia, 30, were married on June 13 in the chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
The couple met five years ago, after the prince ended his previous relationship a decade before.
The relationship was marked at first by the past of Sofia, who had posed almost naked for a youth magazine and was known in Sweden for having participated in the reality show “Paradise Hotel.”
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have three grandchildren: Estela, Leonore and Nicolas.
The last two are the children of Princess Madeleine and financer Christopher O’Neill, while Estela is the daughter of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, who in March will become parents for the second time.
