Spanish Royals Take Daughters to First Day of School

MADRID – Princess Leonor and her sister, Princess Sofia, started back at school on Friday and arrived at Santa Maria de los Rosales College in Madrid with their parents, King Felipe and Queen Letizia.

Driving his car, the King and his wife waved from inside the vehicle at photographers who were waiting in front of the private college, where Leonor, who will turn 10 years old next month, will begin year 5 and Sofia, 8, year 3 at primary school.

When the monarchs left after saying goodbye to their daughters, the King once again greeted the press through the opened car window.

When asked if the girls were happy at school, Don Felipe answered smiling: “Yes, thank you.”

Next Tuesday, the third day of class, is Queen Letizia’s 43rd birthday but this year she will not be able to celebrate it with her daughters as she will be accompanying her husband on an official State trip to the United States, during which they will meet with U.S. President Barack Obama.
