PARIS – French President François Hollande and his girlfriend, actress Julie Gayet, appeared together at an official event on Thursday for the first time since their relationship came to light in January 2014.
Gayet accompanied Hollande to the Mont Valerien memorial for a ceremony commemorating Charles de Gaulle’s appeal of June 18, 1940, in which the late French leader exhorted the country to resist the Nazi occupation.
The couple, according to media, arrived at the event separately and did not exchange a single word during the ceremony.
The actress was the center of media attention this week, especially weekly Paris Match magazine, which ran a report on how Gayet is gradually getting used to her new status as the companion of the president.
Paris Match added in its article that the couple does not hide, but they certainly do not display their affections in public following the scandal caused by the publication of several photos unveiling the romance between Hollande and Gayet.
