SEOUL – Merlin Entertainments PLC said on Monday that it plans to open a Legoland theme park in South Korea in cooperation with local government.
The company said it has entered into a partnership agreement with the provincial government of Gangwon, where the park will be located.
Merlin, which also owns London’s Madame Tussauds waxwork museum as well as the Legoland theme parks, said it will invest 210 billion South Korea won ($188 million) to build the park, with another KRW80 billion coming from the Gangwon province.
The planned resort will incorporate a themed hotel and is due to open by 2022.
Merlin also said it is in advanced discussions with parties regarding a number of potential Legoland parks in China.
