Selena Gomez Gets Kidney Transplant, Thanks Best Friend for Donating Organ

WASHINGTON – Singer and actress Selena Gomez, who suffers from lupus, said in an Instagram post that she received a kidney transplant and thanked her best friend for donating the organ.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Gomez said. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”

The 25-year-old former Disney Channel star shared a photo of her and Raisa holding hands while lying in side-by-side hospital beds.

Lupus is a chronic, auto-immune disease that affects mostly women between the ages of 15 and 44, causing a great variety of medical problems, such as skin lesions, joint inflammation and kidney disorders.

Gomez did not say when the transplant was done, but participated in New York Fashion Week and is in the cast of Woody Allen’s new film, which is shooting in the Big Apple.

The actress thanked her family and doctors for their support before and after the operation.

Gomez’s social media post has garnered more than 2.5 million “likes” so far.
