Inter Milan Thrashes Chievo Verona 5-0, Tops Serie A Table

MILAN, Italy – Inter Milan routed Chievo Verona 5-0 on Sunday to top the Serie A table, taking advantage of Napoli’s defeat against Juventus.

Inter’s Ivan Perisic scored a hat-trick in the 23rd, 57th and 90th minute, with Mauro Icardi and Milan Skriniar notching one goal apiece in the 38th and 60th minutes, respectively.

After the win, Inter tops the Italian first division league with 39 points, just one point ahead of Napoli, which was stunned 1-0 against Juventus led by their former forward Gonzalo Higuain.

Fiorentina, meanwhile, defeated Sassuolo 3-0, ending its winless streak at four matches.

Giovanni Simeone opened the scoring for the host in the 32nd minute, while Jordan Veretout doubled the tally 10 minutes later.

Federico Chiesa secured Fiorentina’s win with a goal in the 71st minute.

This was Fiorentina’s first league win in five games, after two defeats against Crotone and Roma, followed by draws with SPAL and Lazio.

With the win, Fiorentina holds the seventh spot (21 points) on goal differential over Milan and Bologna, which drew against Cagliari 1-1.
