Real Madridís Marcelo Admits Tax Fraud, to Pay over $500,000

MADRID Ė Real Madrid defender Marcelo admitted on Tuesday to committing tax fraud by failing to pay a total of 490,917 euros ($583,773) to the Spanish treasury relating to his personal income taxes for the year 2013, and has promised to repay that amount.

Judicial sources told EFE that the Brazil player appeared on Tuesday for just 10 minutes in front of a court in the Spanish city of Alcobendas, Madrid, following a complaint filed by the prosecution against him.

The Spanish prosecutorís office accused Marcelo of creating a corporate structure to conceal the income he earned from the use of his image rights.

Marcelo had hidden the amounts charged for those image rights in his tax declarations for 2011, 2012 and 2013.
