MADRID – Real Madrid’s captain Sergio Ramos broke his nose during the 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid, La Liga’s defending champion team confirmed on Sunday.
Ramos was forced to leave the field in the 46th minute following a kick to the face by Atletico’s Lucas Hernandez.
“After tests carried out on Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid Sanitas medical team, he has been diagnosed with a fractured nose. His recovery will continue to be assessed,” said a statement on the team’s official website.
Now, the squad and the injured defender must decide together whether he is to undergo surgery, which could sideline him for a number of matches, or wear a protective face mask.
Ramos missed the training session on Sunday to undergo the medical exams.
