SAARBRÜCKEN, Germany – Spanish badminton player Beatriz Corrales has been eliminated from the Bitburger Open after a 14-21, 21-17, 21-15 first-round defeat on Wednesday at the hands of Germany’s Fabienne Deprez.
Corrales, who reached the quarterfinals of last year’s event, cruised to a relatively easy victory in the first game but was unable to produce the same level of play over the remaining two.
The 29th-ranked Spaniard had won her previous six matches against the 47th-ranked Deprez.
The Bitburger Open is one of 13 Grand Prix Gold events on the annual badminton calendar.
Those events rank below the World Championships, the Super Series Masters Finals and the Super Series Premier and Super Series tournaments in terms of ranking points and prestige.
