Serbian National Soccer Coach Fired

BELGRADE Ė The Serbian soccer federation fired on Monday national team coach Slavoljub Muslin just weeks after the squad qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 2010.

Muslinís assistant, former player Mladen Krstajic, will take charge of the team on an interim basis, the federation said on its Web site, without offering any reasons for the dismissal.

Krstajicís first challenge will be Serbiaís Nov. 10 and Nov. 14 friendlies against China and South Korea, respectively.

The 64-year-old Muslin told Serbian newspaper Alo on Monday that he and the federation were at odds over the make-up of the team that would represent Serbia in the 2018 World Cup.

Other media outlets reported that Muslin rejected the federationís proposal to bring new blood to the squad by calling up players such as Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
