Frankfurt’s Alex Meier Out for the Season

BERLIN – Frankfurt’s attacking midfielder and the top marksman of the Bundesliga, Alex Meier, will spend the remainder of the season on the sidelines with a knee injury, Eintracht Frankfurt club reported on Monday.

Frankfurt manager Thomas Schaaf said that the loss of Alex is a shock for the club, holding on to the hope that he may still be able to help the team in the final stretch of the season.

The club had optimistically anticipated that Meier’s injury could be treated, but it soon became evident that the player would need surgery.

Meier is the top goal scorer for the Bundesliga, with 19 goals this season, followed by Dutchman Arjen Robben of Bayern Munich with 17 goals, who is also injured with an undetermined date of return, while Polish teammate Robert Lewandowski follows with 16 goals.
