Tokyo Stocks Fall; Seoul’s and China’s Rise

TOKYO – Tokyo Stock Exchange’s benchmark Nikkei index dropped 452.81 points on Friday – or 2.26 percent – to close at 19,561.96 points.

The Topix fell 22.93 points – or 1.53 percent – to 1,471.16 points.

In Seoul, the stock exchange’s benchmark index Kospi gained 16.55 points – or 0.83 percent – to close at 2,010.25 points.

Tech stocks index Kosdaq rose 7.47 points – or 1.14 percent – to close at 664.49 points.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Stock Exchange gained 2.05 percent – or 50.51 points – to end at 2,514.87.

The Shenzhen Stock Exchange increased 2.76 percent – or 195.4 points – to stand at 7,284.84.

Also, the Hong Kong stock exchange’s Hang Send index climbed 2.24 percent – or 561.67 points – to end at 25,626.03.

The accumulated gains of 0.48 percent for the week, even though the exchange did not operate on Monday or Tuesday due to New Year festivities.
