Japan Records Trade Deficit of $6.55 Billion in November

TOKYO – Japan recorded a trade deficit of $6.55 billion in November, the government announced on Wednesday.

The result contrasts with the surplus of $935 million achieved in the same month in 2017, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance.

Japanese exports increased in the eleventh month of the year by 0.1 percent year-on-year to $61.5 billion and imports increased by 12.5 percent to $68.1 billion.

By country, Japan recorded a deficit of $4.47 billion with China, its largest trading partner, which is 16.3 percent more than the negative balance a year earlier.

With the world’s largest economy and its second largest trading partner, the United States, the Asian country obtained a surplus of $5.54 billion, which is 5.4 percent less year-on-year.

With the European Union, its third largest trading partner, Japan recorded a deficit of $1.22 billion, an increase of the negative balance by 174.9 percent with respect to the same month in 2017.
