MADRID – Shoppers eager to bag a bargain hit high street and online stores in countries all over the world on Friday, with “Black Friday” offering consumers a chance to purchase goods at heavily discounted prices.
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, sees retailers shifting vast amounts of products at reduced prices and has become popular elsewhere in recent years.
Images released via epa showed keen consumers grabbing televisions in a shop in the Brazilian city of Sao Paolo, others in the Greek capital Athens forming an orderly line outside a store early on Friday, as well as signs touting discounts in shop windows in various cities.
People were seen camping outside a store in Mesquite, Texas, hoping to be among the first to access the sales.
While stores would continue offering deals over the weekend, Cyber Monday on Nov. 27 is to offer further discounts to those looking to shop online.
