BEIJING – China’s President Xi Jinping praised on Thursday the deepening economic cooperation with the United States, and called for increased exchanges in areas of technology and trade.
“We will further increase our cooperation in trade, specially liquefied natural gas, fuel, as well as beef and agricultural products,” Xi told his US counterpart Donald Trump during a meeting of business leaders at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, highlighting the “huge potential” in China-US cooperation.
The Chinese president invited more US firms to participate in China’s “One Belt, One Road” infrastructure and telecommunications project.
While focusing on the successes of the Sino-American relationship, he also acknowledged areas of friction, but said he hoped to resolve those issues “in a frank and consultative way.”
Earlier on Thursday, Trump had referred to his country’s “unfair” trade deficit with China, calling for a radical change to the relationship.
