French President Expresses Concern over US President’s Stance on Jerusalem

PARIS – The French presidential office reported on Tuesday that President Emmanuel Macron, in a telephone conversation with his United States counterpart Donald Trump, expressed his concern over the possibility of the US recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Macron had spoken with Trump on Monday.

“Macron reminded Trump that Jerusalem’s status should be resolved within the framework of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, aiming in particular for the establishment of two states living side by side in peace and security with Jerusalem as a capital,” the Elysee Palace statement said.

The two presidents, who agreed to soon discuss the issue once again, also discussed other ongoing international concerns, like the situation in Iraq.
