Hamas Seeks to Open New Chapter of Cooperation with Iran

GAZA – A delegation from the ruling Islamist movement in Gaza, Hamas, paid an eight-day visit to Iran to strengthen bilateral relations after four years of estrangement, said the Palestinian group in a statement.

According to the note, the visit was “successful” and was concluded on Wednesday night, as the delegation held a series of meetings with senior Iranian officials, including Ali Larijani, chairman of the Iranian Parliament, and Ali Shamkhani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.

The Hamas delegation, which in the past received generous financial support from Tehran, was led by Mohamed Nasser, a member of the Hamas political bureau, accompanied by Osama Hamdan, Hamas leader in Beirut and Khaled Qadoumi, its representative in Tehran.

“We found support for the resistance in Palestine,” Hamdan said in the statement, hoping that this visit would usher in a new page of cooperation between Hamas and Iran.
