MOSCOW – More than 40 people, mostly foreigners, were injured when a fire broke out in a student residence hall located southeast of Moscow, the Health Ministry reported.
“According to preliminary data, the wounded were foreigners, and among those hospitalized are 21 who are in serious condition,” a spokesman from the ministry said, although the citizenships of the victims were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nikolai Plavunov, head of a nearby emergency medical center, said a total of 43 people were injured and 37 were hospitalized.
“They are mostly foreigners,” the doctor confirmed, adding that six of those admitted required respiratory support.
The fire broke out on Wednesday night in a student dormitory at the Pirogov Medical University, the most prestigious in the country, with over 9,000 students.
