Paraguay Establishes Presence in Kazakhstan at Astana Energy Fair

ASUNCION – Paraguay is establishing its presence in Kazakhstan on Sunday, particularly in the energy sector, with its participation in the Expo Astana 2017 fair, which emphasizes the importance of moving toward a world energy system based on renewables, the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry said.

The fair, which opened on June 10 in the capital of the Central Asian nation, devoted Sunday to Paraguay, which was represented by a delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Oscar Cabello Sarubbi.

Cabello Sarubbi was hosted by Kazakh Deputy Defense Minister Abylkhayr Skakov, who emphasized Paraguay’s attractiveness as a “great producer and exporter of electrical energy,” according to the Foreign Ministry statement.

He added that Paraguay’s presence at the exposition is a “platform for ... international activities in all areas of economic and commercial relations” between the two nations.

Meanwhile, the Paraguayan official presented a video of Foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga, who delivered greetings in the name of President Horacio Cartes.

Paraguay maintains a commitment to clean and renewable energy via the Itaipu and Yacyreta hydroelectric dams.

The organizers of Expo Astana 2017, which will run until Sept. 10, hope to welcome between three and five million visitors in the coming six weeks, the majority of them from Kazakhstan, Russia and China.
