MADRID – A suitcase filled with cash was robbed from former Paraguayan president Nicanor Duarte while he was staying at a hotel in Madrid, Spanish police confirmed to EFE on Sunday.
Duarte reported to police early on Saturday that a suitcase had been stolen from him.
According to the complaint he submitted, the case contained documents, money, a watch and a mobile phone.
The cash money reportedly amounted to 8,000 euros ($8,954).
Police have launched an investigation and are now analyzing the hotel’s security footage in order to establish the perpetrator’s identity.
