BOGOTA – Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo announced on Saturday that authorities have discovered plans for the possible assassination of President Ivan Duque, and added that three Venezuelan citizens with military weapons were recently detained.
Trujillo said in a video broadcast by his office that several months ago intelligence inquiries were being conducted concerning possible attempts on the president’s life.
According to the foreign minister, “to this is added the recent capture of three Venezuelan citizens who were found in possession of military weapons.”
Two of them were arrested in Valledupar, capital of the department of Cesar, bordering Venezuela, in possession of two assault rifles, and the third was arrested in Barranquilla in the north of the country.
In relation to the arrests in Valledupar, the police said that they were carried out after two Venezuelans carrying two rifles with several magazines in their luggage were discovered on a bus traveling to Barranquilla.
The authorities have not provided information about the detainee in Barranquilla.
