Colombian Nun Abducted from Church in Mali

BAMAKO - A Colombian nun was abducted from a church in Karangasso, southwest of Mali, police officials in the area told EFE on Wednesday.

A group of unidentified armed men stormed the parish church of Karangasso in Koutiala province on Tuesday night and seized the nun, whose name is still unknown.

The Malian Armed Forces sent reinforcements from the regional capital of Koutiala to help in the search for the nun, who may have been taken to the nearby forests, extending to the Ivory Coast border.

The region where the nun was snatched is far from the most unstable parts of the country, where terror groups operate, and it is difficult to attribute the abduction to either political motivation or criminal reasons.
